Dear art lovers all over the world,

I could not sleep last night and also I am living, as contemporary painter, in our digital world, watch TV and I am confronted daily with mass of news, information. I remember  the eighties, I lived and worked for a while in Egypt.

A friend of mine had a mobile phone. What a sensation …. Nobody could escape from it.  This was an expensive and huge and heavy machine. We were together driving by car from Cairo to Alexandria over the dessert road. He asked

me “Juel, do you want to call Switzerland ?” and with a high respect to this machine I have taken the phone in the middle of the dessert and called my sister in Ascona/Switzerland. What a great event this was at those time. I thought

I was part of the privileged people.  What a nonsense in view of today.......

Our digital world would also infiltrate  my ivory tower.  To escape is very difficult. In the past I had two  websites. I did not care of that at all, for me this was not important. I not wanted Twitter, Facebook, nothing. All this communication ways disturbed my creative phases. But in spite of that I realized that I stand as Swiss artist there and I am a contemporary witness. I have to be present, even on the smallest or slightest version.

Meanwhile I have a team and they help me to do that-  for what I have no time  - to be present in the digital world.

Frankfurter Buchmesse   #fbm15

Last night I was so full of emotions, new inspirations that I found no sleep. Also I was watching TV –  I love German TV. German discussions, reports are so excellent. ARD German channel had last night a report about the Frankfurter Buchmesse. And when I heard about Precht, a new book from him, I definitively waked up. 

Richard David Precht

For me Richard David Precht is the living witness how philosophy can be transmitted – easy and absorbed like a thriller. Wow. … In the news last night I heard him talking about his newestbook “Erkenne die Welt – Geschichte der Philosophie, Band I”. I will read this book. Definitively. It is also my opinion that our digital world change completely our society.(  I follow Precht since a while and his thinking fascinate me. ) The digital world is much more as a oportunity for the small kids  to keep them calm..

To be present in the digital world need a lot of time – see my blog endless time. At a certain period of my life I had my sceptic. But when I realized that ARD and ZDF German TV Channels are on Facebook, Twitter and use the social media, so I was finally convinced to put my mental leg in this contemporary net.

How would Dali, Magritte, Picasso, Anker, Hodler, Rembrandt, and Michelangelo be influenced – if they would live in our digital world such as we have today.  What they would or could find and how they would establish their position ? How would this digital world influence their thinking, feeling and finally their painting?

With my web team I am able to move slowly but surely in the digital world – alone – in his digital world -  I don’t think I would have the real time for that. This needs a lot of hours. And this would be stolen from my art, my creation process.

JUEL's fourth exhibition at St. Elizabeth's Church is entitled:

Come be my light

As a contemporary Swiss artist, I want to contribute to our momentous times and call upon my fellow human beings to form a global spiritual chain of light for peace, freedom, and compassion.

Where times are turbulent, where refugees are pouring into Europe in the numbers of a mass migration, where war, disruption, and spiritual derangement are commonplace, where individual life is no longer respected, where power and greed take precedence over our human values, there we, the citizens of the earth, we artists, must issue our call for peaceful commitment to peace and freedom.

I call upon you: come, let us form a chain of light together, for through our multitudes we can change the world, even in small ways, right now.

Since 1980, I have developed my own iconography by reinterpreting existing symbols. Through my perspective, I try to filter the present. For there is great meaning and substance in the everyday.

Born in Davos, currently with a studio in Basel, I have developed and shaped my own style over many years. Through travel and work in many countries, my painting has been subject to a wide range of influences.

To date, with over 350 works and major international exhibitions, I strive to position my artistic practice within a constantly changing world.

On the occasion of the exhibition at the Elisabethenkirche, I will be holding an auction of one of my original works (November 6–22, 2015). 100% of the proceeds will go to support Syrian refugees. I will personally oversee and document this project.

Dear artlovers all over the world,

I don’t know what HR Giger would say seeing his statue in the green stuff ( we call this in German grüne Rabatte) in the City of Chur in Switzerland.  However and how long this statue would be there – is this a honourable place ? Judge it and go to see if ever you are able to do that. Any comments I would appreciate on my e-mail.  It is now some months more as a year ago  that Giger died.

We was and is well known in the glamorous movie wold. As creator of Alien he will be unforgettable.

As artist who was he and what all were his feelings and motivation to create such creations

and pictures?  By all mean he had a great imagination and inner world to create all this unforgettable art. My full respect to him.

When artist meets artist  

Few contemporary artists, even more few in the past let open the window to their inner soul to

the public and the contemporary world.   After long fights my soulmate convinced me to start the

present website – in this form and structure we start to create and to fill and enlarge it gradually. I not want that people write about me wrong comments, wrong feelings and simply to write about me what I am not really. My soulmate used to tell me “I am in the write time born due to the airplane.

Nowadays it is possible in few hours to reach the last point of our world. If this is now the last

corner of China or an unknown place somewhere in our world. “ I am telling :” I am born in the write time do to the internet resp. the unlimited communication and information and consequently

free opinion at least in our part of the world ”. In some subjects we are living in the last

century but in the communication network we are arrived. Arrived in a way that I, JUEL artist from

Switzerland can any time communicate to the global community whatever I want to say.

At least in our part of the world, this free opinion allow me to tell who I am, what are the reasons

of my activity,  the creativity of my painting and the message of it.  People can go to my site, and

slowly but surely it will be filled with part of my world. This world is living in freedom and wants

to communicate in freedom his messages.

What would say the old  masters if they would have such an opportunity ? Are we not so rich in

possibilities and expressions ? But why in spite of this freedom  a large part of the contemporary

art is without soul, message and inner energy ? Write me, communicate with me – also

this is one of my purposes to open this blog on my website. Tell me your opinion, ask me what

ever is touching you.

Respect to all humans who are in the creation process 

Who ever you are, musicians, committed writers, painters, I invite you to communicate with

me because I am convinced we can change the world, even we are small ants. But with our energy and as a global energy we can make our world to a better place. If we reach this goal our being has a sense.  It is not the value, the price, the money, what will remember us, but our reached unique and common  goals will be unforgettable.

the time when we have time to make this action.

Dear art lovers  all over the world,

I intended to fill in this blog only what is in relation to my art. But just today I decided to expand this circle. An artist nowadays is extremely influenced from everything what happens around him.

All these impulses what I get from outside build finally my opinion and thinking. That is the result, resp. finally at the end of our days. To what we can look back and what we remain to our loved persons, the family and friends.  We are the contemporary witness. And it is so important in what a country, society and surrounding we are living.  The mass of people respects few elements.

In the same building, where I have one of my atelier in Basel, was living and 91 years old lady.

She was living alone, had no husband and no children all her life. But she is a good brain and

has a good health. With the years she decided to live in a home for old people where they take care of her in the daily life.  She was since years very polite with me, even few years ago she came to

an exhibition in Basel. Now she left this house and few days later a 40 feet container

arrived and several men through in a period of 4 days all was she had as property in this container.  I was shocked that nobody had such a relation to her to keep resp. safe something. Especially her father was a photographer and witness of his time. Also she was a photographer. All her photos were thrown away and her past was deleted. That’s very pity. If she would be from a royal or wealthy family they would make with all these thousands of photos a museum.  All personal witnesses are deleted forever at least in material.

How is it in the art? This to answer is very difficult. There are thousands of artists nowadays and

in the past. Very few  survive as witness of their time resp. their art. Only after their death

or even long long years later we can tell yes, his art has survived.  What we consider nowadays

art – is this really art ? Will this art survive?

Timeless time

Again I come to one of my old paintings. In spite painted it since a long time the message

I wanted to transmit is so actual as it was yesterday.    

Many souls are saying that time as a value not exists and only we as human give our life a structure

to be able to see all events in a chronology way.  A philosopher told once that he has to do many many things in full stress to be able to have then time and relax. Do we not do so in front of our holidays, all has to be finished, be perfect, in order, paid, cleaned, all administration done, even on the way to the airport we phone friends or colleagues with the latest delegation. Sitting in the aircraft – all this hurry flies away and an empty time, a "no time" starts to begin.  We can relax hours without thinking just let us be with the time stream.  I have several artworks in relation to the subject stream – like fish stream over Schanfigg.  We are on the beach – listen the waves and forget our life, our stress, our obligations, we just are in a timeless time.  The timeless time is so good, is so natural, its such a good feeling that we want to be in it as long we can.

This timeless time I wanted to communicate to the human with my below artwork. I painted it 1993,  

the title was : The time. 

From 1993 until today, 22 years, a long time, a completely full packed time, at least for me.   

Going deeper into the artwork:  

The time structure is mouldable, the eye as mirror of the time is mowing resp. flexible. Time is no compact form, time cannot be caught in a structure.  In hieroglyphics the title. Inside of the mouldable mass is black, grey and white. The universe is in green, yellow and endless.     

With this I want to end my second blog.

Dear art lovers all over the world,

This is my first blog. Some of my friends convinced me to be more present in the world wide web and not follow the old communication models.

New in #Neuland

To be honest I am an artist and have not the time to spend hours and hours in the web. This would completely trouble my creativity. On the other hand it is so clear that nowadays more and more people communicate only over the web.  I have a soulmate who loves and understands my art and this person in the shadow will be my intermediator.  Not one word will be written, that I not know or not accept.

But I think that you, dear art lover will agree with me, to concentrate full time in the creation of my art. This is the only thing I really can do, I love and live for it and will do it until the end of my days.

I realized that to communicate over a blog is the best window to me. Even Facebook  and Twitter are very changeable, they can never in all this short sentences, bring over to you my art.

Out of the ivory tower?

At the time I was exhibiting some of my artwork in Shanghai/China several art professors came to me. The common denominator from then was – you are so variable in your art. There are some artists in China always using the same subject. Their talks were touching me very much. I never had thought about the differences in my art. But it is correct, each artwork is a story itself and in principle could be painted about it all the time. But I have not the time for that. Too many things go though me and want to come on the surface.  If I concentrate on one subject only all these many feelings, inspirations cannot be expressed to the human. And this is what I want. I paint for the public in sense to be seen. I cannot write my thinking and feelings, but I can paint them.

On the other hand, is it right for a painter to live in his ivory tower? I cannot answer for that. I only know, if I not live in it I cannot survive.

I have seen in the TV all this poor refugees  from Syria,  with whom I have all my empathy, I think, may be some times one of my artwork can trouble a small part of the world and this is beside my personal charity, the most I can do in my life.

Retrospektive: "Lüge oder Wahrheit"

I want to end this blog with an artwork.  For sure they are much more better and spectacular artworks I painted but in 1993 I painted “Lüge oder Warheit” – the title means in English : Lie or truth.

So many people are lying in the world. From the politicians to the normal persons. With the lie the want to give other persons, a picture, a thinking, a feeling of them, what they not are or what would help them to reach certain goals.  With my artwork I want to remember them to close better the tongue and to remain in silence as to show a picture what is far from them.  This title I painted in hieroglyphics, what I use since long years to paint resp. sign the title on my artwork.

Yellow as symbol of mental vitality, warmness, brainpower, spirit, sublimation of thinking,orange as symbol of transformation/metamorphosis, red for blood and love, turquois the coldest of all colours and symbol of communication,  black is the symbol of sorrow. In the centre you find a circle in white. White is no colour, white is a condition, purity, perfection, light. I think the rest of your feelings must come when you enter deeper in the deadline of my advice resp. into my artwork.

I want to suggest all humans better to close the tongue as to speak one lie.
